What is Clayton Pride’s goal? 


Clayton Pride works to create a city where Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex and Asexual plus (LGBTQQIA+) people thrive as healthy and equal members of society through advocating for respect, equity, and justice, and work to build a culturally rich community for members and allies.

What does LGBTQQIA+ stand for?


LGBTQQIA+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer, intersex, and asexual sexualities and gender identities. “Plus” is the umbrella that refers to everyone else whose sexuality and gender identity do not align with heteronormative standards (i.e. pan-sexuality, non-binary, non-conforming people, among others).

Why is a Pride Parade in Clayton important?


The Pride Parade symbolizes community support, acceptance, and tolerance for members of the LGBTQQIA+ community who historically and presently continue to encounter discrimination due to sexuality and gender identity.

What does the color of the rainbow stand for?


Red symbolizes life; Orange symbolizes healing; Yellow symbolizes new ideas; Green symbolizes prosperity; Blue symbolizes Serenity; Violet symbolizes spirit; Black/Brown symbolizes people of color; White/Blue/Pink symbolizes the trans community.

When is Pride month? 


June has long been recognized as LGBTQQIA+ Pride Month, in honor of the Stonewall riots, which took place in New York City in June 1969. The month of June was first declared “Gay & Lesbian Pride Month” in 1999 and 2000 by President Bill Clinton. From 2009 to 2016, President Barack Obama declared June “LGBT Pride Month”. In 2021, President Joe Biden declared June “LBGTQ+ Pride Month.” 



When did the City of Clayton official recognize Pride Month?

What is an “ally” of the LGBTQQIA+ community?


An “ally” is anyone who believes that LGBTQQIA+ individuals deserve to live in an oppression-free community and support full civil rights for LGBTQQIA+ individuals.
